An article on the PPA’s formation, objectives, and trajectory was recently featured in Innovation News Network (INN). INN showcases science, research, and innovations in sustainability and reaches a global audience, including organizations engaged in critical minerals and the energy transition. The article provides historic background on the impetus for creating the PPA, highlights recent activities like the Data for Impact Symposium, and outlines key adjustments to the PPA’s scope and functions to take effect in the next phase.
USAID Chief Climate Officer Gillian Caldwell authored an article in The Hill outlining critical minerals’ unique role in facilitating the green energy transition. In it, she affirms the necessity of strengthening relationships between U.S. Government and the private sector, mentioning the PPA as an exemplary model for this kind of partnership and recognizing the PPA’s evolving focus in the next phase. “[A] decade ago USAID and the Department of State co-founded the Public-Private Alliance for Responsible Minerals Trade… In 2017, the Department of Labor joined the alliance and together we began addressing more labor and human rights issues in mineral supply chains. We are currently expanding the scope of the Public-Private Alliance to address green energy minerals directly.”
We are pleased to convene a partner session alongside the 2021 OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains in late April. The PPA panel will include examples of evolving public-private models to support responsible minerals supply chains, including mining community projects, followed by an interactive discussion among participants about opportunities and recommendations on the types of investment and evolution of public-private partnership to enhance benefits in upstream supply chains and mining communities. The session will include panelist vignettes of example projects, participant and panelist interactive discussion, and a summary of recommendations and calls to action. The session will take place during the week of April 26, and the final date/time is being confirmed; please visit this link to register and receive further updates.
