In human-wildlife conflict landscapes, timely information can be the difference between a peaceful passage and a dangerous encounter. As part of our commitment to scalable, field-ready conservation technology, RESOLVE and Nightjar partnered with JICA and the West Bengal Forest Department (WBFD) to deploy TrailGuard in one of India’s most active elephant corridors.

A new article in Conservation Science and Practice documents this collaboration, showing how TrailGuard’s AI-enabled detection and fast alerting supported forest guards in identifying elephant movement near villages and preparing ahead of time. Over the deployment, the system detected 266 elephant events and delivered notifications within an average of ~42 seconds, significantly faster than traditional detection workflows that could take hours.

With this early intelligence, frontline teams were able to make informed, timely decisions—whether redirecting elephants, warning local communities, or simply monitoring situations before they escalated. Each action helped reduce risk and strengthen coexistence.

The publication adds to growing evidence that real-time ecological intelligence can meaningfully support conservation across complex landscapes. It also contributes to the continued development of the Nightjar platform, designed to bring early detection, monitoring, and field operations together for conservation partners around the world. We're grateful to all partners and field teams involved in this important work.
